Carpenter’s Workshop

Lamu, Kenya, 1990

I came across this A4 sketchbook lately, they’re charcoal sketches that I made on the island of Lamu when I spent a few months there in 1990.

Some people that I met worked in a carpenter’s workshop in Lamu Town and I stopped by one afternoon. I didn’t do a of lot drawing on that trip, my main project was Stop Frame Animation. So this sketchbook could be the only observational drawing that I did at that time

The Grosvenor

Fairwell to the Grosvenor, Stockwell, South London

I thought I’d mark the sad closing of the Grosvenor Public House in Stockwell by posting a few drawings that I made there.

It’s a great old London pub of the kind that are getting rarer these days, I went there mainly for Club Integral, which was held in the back room and will have its final night there on Friday the 18th July.

Club Integral

Club Integral at the Grosvenor, Stockwell

Possibly the most varied, entertaining and unpredictable regular live music night that London has to offer, I heartily recommend that you get yourselves down to Club Integral.

The nights at the Grosvenor will end on July 18th, but it continues at The Others in Stoke Newington, and heres hoping they’ll find another South London venue before too long.

Many thanks to all concerned.

Holmfirth Artweek

Yorkshire, July 2013

Tim Copsey and Vanda Battye invited me to take part in the inaugural exhibition at EmptySpace, a converted barn in the village of Holme, West Yorkshire. The show was part of the Holmfirth Artweek Fringe. The other exhibitors at EmptySpace were Tim Copsey, Richard Fitton, Lucy Newman and Dave Tebbs.

During the show I went on walks in the locality making drawings of the landscape and places I visited. Back at the barn I pinned the drawings on the wall in sequence, building up a record of the weeks work.
